Dark Japandi is a rethinking, and the nerve to make something new out of something traditional.

Area: 40 m²
Location: Moscow
Year: 2022
ABOUT DESIGN CONCEPT
Japandi interiors bring together the central philosophies of Japan and Scandinavia — a love of union with nature and of serenity, natural materials and natural colour, simplicity and restraint, the practicality and the order of every detail.

The domestic traditions of Nordic and Eastern cultures lie very close to one another. Both are built on a pursuit of calm, of minimalism and of function.
CONCEPT
(01)
PROJECT DARK JAPANDI
A multifunctional space built like a construction set, with concealed storage throughout. The sleeping area, for instance, is hidden inside a CUBE that is also a wardrobe and an extra seat, flowing into a full sofa group with a lower storage system that wraps around the whole open space.
ABOUT SPACE
The main design tasks:

Enlarging the living area. We doubled it against the developer's plan — 24 m² instead of 12 m².

Increasing the flow of daylight, by bringing the apartment's only two windows into a single space.

Aligning the geometry of the space along its axes. The technical conditions were favourable, so we obtained approval to move a doorway by 250 mm, which made a much better zoning possible.
