Part of my mission is to pass states of being on to people — by building a scenario that carries someone through a journey of sensation while they are inside the space. An interior should work like a switch: it turns the mind away from the outside world and its noise and draws you into a space of emotional calm and harmony. An atmosphere of pleasure matters most of all. In a time when so many people live in chronic stress, I want to give them a chance to slow down, to ground themselves, to contemplate beauty and let go.
The brief was to create a project outside trends and outside time — striking, yet never intimidating in its polish. Here I worked from the principle of design dissolving organically into the space. My values are Timeless & Eco, and I take particular joy in projects where I can express them.
Ruzanna Avetisyan, author of the project
This is not only a beauty salon; it is a place where clients can feel at home, as if out in nature, in an atmosphere of warmth and calm. Out of a deep empathy for that approach I brought the theme of a country house, of open fields, of colour gathered while travelling, into the concept of the interior — to send a person, by association, out into nature, back into childhood, to a picnic in a field, on a journey, through images that read instantly. An art object hand-woven from besoms, ears of wheat across the ceiling like an inverted field, wild hogweed in imperfect clay vases — all of it calls up childhood memories of the countryside and of travel.
The palette follows suit, every material is entirely natural, the forms and textures are soft, and every line of the interior embraces you and says “of course you can”. This is how I tried to carry the philosophy of the brand “OF COURSE YOU CAN”, and of its name, into the interior.
Pliant forms fill the space with life. They behave as they do in nature — flowing and sensual. The Earth is our Mother, and she certainly knows what is best for a person. I drew on the wisdom of nature and on childhood fantasies about the interiors of the future. What came out of it is an eclectic mixture of styles — a kind of Wabi-Futurism.
